Proclamation
We, the people of Suriname
Conscious of the fact that we belong to a large world community;
Wanting to live in peace, tolerance,
friendship and unity with peoples
all over the world;
Wanting to unify our strength to promote
peace and safety within our own Country Suriname
and everywhere else in the world;
Wanting to reestablish our belief in
fundamental human rights and freedom, in the dignity and worthiness
of mankind, in equal rights for wornen and men and for nations,
large and small;
Wanting to bring about social progress
and better living conditions for everyone;
Believing in the importance and necessity
of international cooperation in solving problems of
political, civil, social, economic, cultural, and humanitarian
nature;
Convinced of the great strength of
the United Nations, also with regard to solving big and
small problems of women, men, junior and senior citizens, children,
handicapped;
Believing also in the power of the
World Federation of United Nations Associations
(WFUNA), uniting all United Nations Associations all over the
World;
Propagating and promoting the aims
and activities of the United Nations, as well as in making
use of the possibilities of this World Organization and all its
Affiliates.
Therefore:
We proclaim, on this day - the 4th
of December 1996 -, the official foundation of the
non -governmental organization
"United Nations Association Suriname (UNA - Surinarne)",
on the occasion of the 21 st anniversary of the accession of the
Republic of Suriname into the
United Natioiis.
Which will be commanded by statutes in accordance with the "Guidelines
for preparing a
constitution for a United Nations Association " established
by tlie WFUNA;
Which will then join the WFUNA, in conformity with notice no.
148 / F/ 96 of October 25,
1996 of UNDP - Suriname to WFUNA, New York - office
